Dairy prices rise by 2% as of Feb. 1

Ottawa – The Canadian Dairy Commission has increased by two per cent the price for milk used in the manufacture of dairy products for the retail sector and the restaurant industry.
A Feb. 1 announcement by the commission reads:
“Effective February 1, 2021, the 4(m) milk class is updated to allow dairy processors to obtain the 4(m) permit price for the buttermilk incorporated in the manufacture of skim milk powder sold for animal feed and to include liquid buttermilk for animal feed as an eligible permit product in the 4(m) milk class up to the established limit.”
The Class 3(d) application process for mozzarella used on fresh pizza, set up in 2013, is still in place.
The changes are a result of the CDC’s review of Canadian farm-gate milk prices and other costs used in administering the supply management system, as reported in November by Canadian Pizza.
